What is an Informational Interview?

An Informational Interview is a meeting with someone in a field, industry, company that interests you. You are looking for advice from someone in the occupation rather than employment. It is one of the most valuable sources which you can use to gather first hand occupational information.

With the help of information interview, you can prepare yourself for a real interview in several ways, including:
  • Gaining insights into what skills are required, working conditions, and common traits of people you meet. Examining your compatibility by comparing your personal interests with this information.
